UPCOMING EVENTS

Registration is now open!  Any open spots will be available for new students on March 1st.

Bratwurst - $6/lb (Comes in packages between 1.2 & 1.8lbs)

We will have a European culture day in class on Monday!  

Everyone can bring in a European food of your choice, tell about it and where its from, and we will celebrate!  (Remember... You are NOT allowed to stress out your parents over this.  Bring in a food if it works for your family!  Everyone please still bring in a lunch and water bottle.)

Valentine's Party - February 11th  (Decorate a shoe box at home and bring it in that day!)

We will head to Rock Eagle 4H Center (Eatonton, GA) on 4/25!  We will arrive in the morning and be taking group classes that relate to our science lessons this year.  Parents will be responsible for transportation or arranging transportation with another parent.  Permission slips and all information will be available soon!

Farm Fusion Journal Options (choose one)

• You did an awesome job with your adjective paper!  In your journal this week, I'd like you to work on complete sentences, punctuation, capitalization, and handwriting.  
• Choose ONE of the pictures below.  Carefully look at the people, animals, setting, and time period that you see and come up with your own story for the painting.  Write your story, and we will share them in class!

Reader's Journal

• If you could visit any European country, which one would you visit?  Why?  What would you like to do there?  How would you plan your trip? 

Geography

• If you'd like, bring in a food from one of the European countries that we have studied.   You will still need to bring a lunch!
• We made some new country paper bags in class.  Let's add information notecards to them!  Research and write information on ANY of the following countries (You CAN make as many notecards as you'd like... and you can research as many countries as you'd like!)  We'll add the new notecards to our bags and get ready for our in class project!

Science

• We are learning about the different ways to classify plants.  First, we will be learning about non-vascular plants like mosses and liverworts.  The fancy word for these are bryophytes.  They don't have seeds, but reproduce with spores.

• I want to work on descriptive writing this week!  Think of any animal on the farm.  Think about it in great detail... how each part of it looks... how it smells... feels... moves...
• Now, describe it verb well!  
• But... don't tell anyone what animal you chose and don't mention its name or type in your paper!

• Adjectives are words that describe nouns or pronouns.  We will add this card to our grammar card stack next week.

• See if you can color the countries and think about where they are located.  You can also watch further in the video from a couple weeks ago... he may say some things that help you remember!  (Europe has a LOT of countries!  We haven't had all of them... just look over the Western Europe and the Northern and Central Europe pages that you have been given so far, relax, and have fun!)

Science

• We worked in class on a mushroom dissection!  Use what you remember (or you can use online resources with your parents' help) and add this to your science notebook.  Use what you write in your notebook during class to help you!
• Remember -- Mushrooms don't have SEEDS... they have SPORES!
• Parents-- I made a "spore print" for the kids to see.  It is EASY and it WORKS, but it takes a full day to work, so we couldn't make any more in class.  If you'd like to learn how to make your own spore prints at home, check out this video.

Farm Fusion Journal Options (choose one)

• We talked about caring for a bottle calf in class.  Write about what it takes to raise one.  Would it be hard to do?  Easy?  Fun?  Yucky?  Would YOU do it?
• Our book was about a goat who was a very picky eater.  Are you a picky eater?  Write what you think is a healthy diet (for humans!), and then see if you think you are a good eater or if you are like Gregory!

Language Arts

• Study your grammar cards and bring them to class next week!  Don't forget

Reader's Journal

• Describe what you know of Italy so far from our reading.  Our characters have already seen, tasted, and heard some of the sights, sounds, and foods of Italy!  Give your description of the country, so far.

Geography

• In class, we colored in some of the European countries.  Study the ones that we colored.  (They are the same ones as on the "Western Europe" sheet given before the break!)
• You were given three index cards.  Each one has the name of one country on it.  Research each country and write down some important facts, cool tourist sites, or any information that you want to share with the class.  Bring your notecards to class so we can add them to our paper bag project!
• Bring in any pictures that we can add to the sides of our paper bags!  We will have bags for Italy, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Belgium, United Kingdom, and Portugal.  You can color pictures, print them, or cut them out of magazines/brochures!  (You can bring in pictures for any of these countries... not just the three from your index cards!  😊)
