For 10/15-10/19

Monday FreeRangers

If you need a book report card, just ask in class!
These are much larger than typical index cards so they fit in the plastic sleeves in our class book review folder.  (They are 5" x 8")
*If you need a reminder of what to add to your card, there is a link at the top of this page!

REMINDER-- We will have a (STRESS FREE) party on Monday, October 29th.  Kids can wear costumes, and they can bring in treats/snacks to share if you'd like.  Bring lunch and water bottles like normal!

Language Arts
  • Read pages 1-19.  There will be a LOT you can add to your field guide!  I love the way you are adding pictures, descriptions, and fun facts in these field guides!  We'll be sharing these in class next week.  Do your best and use this as an opportunity to dig in and learn about things that interest you!
Diving Deeper-  The main character in our story's name is Carter.  Think about what YOU would do if you were Carter!  Would you have done things differently?  Do you have a similar personality to Carter, or are you very different?  Write about it and bring it in to share with the class!

     Grammar
  • Study your grammar cards... especially the definition of a VERB.... and please make sure to bring them to class!
  • We will be talking about action verbs in class again next week.  Please review them at home so we can do a fun activity with them!  :-)

Geography
  • You guys rocked those poster projects!
  • We have finished up our unit on North America.  Each of you have a coloring map packet for the main countries in North America.  These are full of interesting facts and cool pictures.... color them if you'd like!  This is your final review of these countries.  Definitely look over the Central America section... we will be studying these countries next!
  • Here are two videos that will help you remember the Central American countries:

Science
  • Look through your science notebook to review what you've learned.
  • Study your mnemonic page and try to remember the levels of classification!
  • (Optional- if you'd like to learn about the cladogram and dichotomous key, here is a link to the words that can be added in your science journal on the Classification page!)
  • Click here to read about the three DOMAINS that all living things are classified into.
    • Read about the three domains on your Domain page in your science notebook!
  • OPTIONAL--  We talked about a little bit about dichotomous keys in class. Here is an example of a dichotomous key!  This one is about fish.  Click on one of the fish on the diagram and then follow the steps to use the key and identify the fish.  (Use the box for clues to help you answer the questions!)

Farm Fusion Journal Assignment  Choices
  • Here are your writing choices for next week:
    • In class, we talked about ways that cows' hooves are trimmed now (with a cow tipper... which keeps the cow calm and is a lot faster & safer for the person!) versus how they trimmed in the past, or how you have to trim one by hand.  How do you think cows' hooves will be trimmed far in the future?!  Get creative and see what you can come up with!
