This week, I want YOU to tell your favorite farm news story!!! We are going to give "news reports". Parents, if your child doesn't know what a typical news report looks like, you may need to show them some examples. Your job is to come up with a Farm News story that you would like to share with the world. You will be able to sit at a "news desk" with a microphone and share with the class!
You can talk about more than one thing, just be sure it is under 4 minutes long.
You can work with a partner if you'd like. Just bring in a "farm news" story that you'd like to share and we'll have time to partner up and work together on how to say, "Over to you, ______" or "... and now here's __________ with a breaking report."
Handwriting
I love, love, love seeing your handwriting improve so much!! Please keep up the good work!
This week, complete 3 more pages in your book, and try to write your farm fusion story by hand.
Prepositions
We talked about prepositions in class. Here is a video that my classes made years ago to help you memorize the preposition list!
I can't wait to read your stories in class! Here are some ideas for you:
Baby bunnies have arrived! Baby bunnies are called "kits". These are only three days old, so they have no fur and their eyes are closed.
If you were a seed sprouting in our garden here at the farm, what would you be thinking? What would you see, hear, feel? Do you think a seed would like to be in our garden? Write a story as if YOU were the seed/plant!
As always, you can write any story of your choice!
Handwriting
Keep
working on your handwriting!
Complete 2-3 pages in your handwriting book, but also WRITE in your at-home
assignments with your parents. It's a skill that takes daily work!
I can't wait to read your stories in class! Here are some ideas for you:
We will begin talking about plants, seeds, and pollinators in class. Write about a little seed that wanted to travel far from its parent plant when it falls.
Write about our garden from the point of view of a bee or butterfly.
As always, you can write a story with the baby goats, chicks, horses, etc as characters.
For those of you who love nonfiction stories, tell us about something that happened this week!

We
will have an EASTER EGG HUNT the week of March 29th! Please bring in 1
dozen filled eggs and a basket. (Due to many allergies and
sensitivities, you may want to try to find small toys, stickers, etc)
Our hunt will begin at 2:00. Feel free to come and take pictures! We'll have bunnies and chicks available for photo ops!
Need a plan for summer fun? We still have a few spots open for 3rd-5th grade summer classes. Click here for info.
Farm Fusion Stories-
Here are some GREAT ideas from this week that you could use as story-starters!
The bunnies have been tunneling in their pen.... it's like a bunny jail break!
We have goats and a cow that will have babies in the next week or two.
Storm is a fiesty little buckling! See if you can write a story about his adventures!
Handwriting-
Please
keep working in your handwriting books! You should be completing 2-3
pages per week.
If you haven't paid March Tuition, please do so ASAP

Farm Fusion Stores-
Our Tuesday class almost had EVERYONE bring a story last week! GREAT JOB!!!
Here are some ideas to get your imagination flowing:
We sorted chicks in class. Write about a big group of chicks... maybe they could be students in "chick class"!
Storm, the little buckling, has been playing with the kids during free time. Maybe he thinks he's a HUMAN kid!
Handwriting-
Please keep working in your handwriting books! You should be completing 2-3 pages per week. Handwriting habits cannot be corrected once per week, so please encourage your children not only to write, but to write correctly!
OPTIONALRESOURCES-
Science at Home
Game: Magnet Hunt -Can you find buried magnets, working on the idea that opposites attract? Your tool kit has compasses, iron filings and secret magnetic film! (id-255q pass-brainpop)
We need your stories! We love to hear both your fiction and non-fiction stories! If you'd like to write about things here on the farm, here are some ideas from this week's Farm News:
The blue egg layers just started laying their eggs! What do you think the other hens think about these pretty eggs?
If the weather is nice next week, the emus will come and run and play on the farm! What do you think the other animals will think of these odd creatures? Do you think they'll fit in?
In class, you learned that female emus are like the "roosters" of emus. They do lay the eggs, but then their job is to guard and protect while the male emus sit on the nest and raise the chicks. We have not one, not two, but THREE females! Whoops! Write about what problems could arise if we kept all three!
In class, I explained that we had an accident and broke two emu eggs. Sometimes, disappointing things happen. We talked about how, when bad things happen, it's never okay to lash out or act mean to others. Write about a time when you were disappointed. How did you react? Or, you can come up with a fictional story about a disappointing situation. See if you can have your characters learn to react in a healthy way.
Handwriting
Please complete the next 3 pages in your handwriting book. Work on each letter! Remember to always, always, always start at the top for print!
You can also work on your handwriting as you write your Farm Fusion stories. :-)
Here are some ideas to help you with this week's farm fusion story--
Emus! Someone in class asked what Han and Chewie are going to think about these weird birds once they are outside. That could be a great story!
The barn cats and their adventures on the farm could always be a great story starter.
For those who stay for science, we talked about different types of clouds and what they mean about the weather. You could combine this lesson with the farm animals. Do you think they can tell when it's going to rain? Which animals would be excited about all this rain?
The baby bunnies could make a great story!
I showed you different types of eggs today in class. You could write a creative story about one of these different types of eggs.
NEEDED-- If anyone has any old towels, we could use them as we prep for spring kidding season! Also, if you have a couple old blankets in your donation pile, I'd love those, as well! Let the games BEGIN!
Money
Continue to work on money counting and skip counting. Skip counting songs will make multiplication facts easier later on!
Handwriting
As always, work on writing daily! The more we write, the easier it will get!
Work on 2-3 pages of your handwriting book this week. Remember, it isn't about getting the pages completed, it's about using the pages to actively practice. I'll check individual progress in class when we return.
Here is a list of OPTIONAL videos and lessons that you can use this week. They correlate with our last class day!

Farm Fusion Story Ideas:
We have new pigs (hogs) coming to the farm on Friday, so you'll meet them when you come next week.
The baby bunnies will be opening their eyes soon. We talked about how baby bunnies are called "kits". Their moms are called "does".
Smalls the Pig escaped on Sunday! I had to go get him all the way up the road. SO many of my neighbors called, texted, and messaged me about him being on the loose!
The majority of kids are not doing any of the handwriting assignments at all at home during the week. Hopefully, they are working on writing at home with parents, instead of participating in assignments for class. I'll keep trying to help in class, but there is no way that I can help teach children how to correctly write when I am only with them once per week. Since it's not possible for me to keep assigning page numbers, I will have students that are doing the work to continue to complete 2-3 pages per week, at home. For those participating, I am checking each students' progress and working with them on problem areas. Many students told me that they never even know there are any assignments for my class.
OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:
Help your children count coins/money. We have been working a lot on adding money with coins!
