Due by April 8th

April 25th - Rock Eagle Field Trip
Last Day of Class - May 15th

Tuition Due by class on April 8th

PARENTS-- If your child is attending the field trip, I need you to send me an email or text ASAP and let me know what dietary restrictions the cafeteria needs to prepare for.  They try to accommodate if at all possible, but I have to let them know now!   Thank you!

Language Arts

  • The class ROCKED the preposition lessons!
  • Now, let's take a look at the four types of sentences:
    • Questions (Interrogative)
    • Commands (Imperative)
    • Statements (Declarative)
    • Exclamations (Exclamatory)
  • Watch the video below.  Print and complete this sheet and put it in your folder.

Swiss Family Robinson
  • You have a new book AND a new notebook!  Look through the questions for chapters 1-4 before you begin reading.
  • In other versions of this story, it says that the Robinsons leave Switzerland and are traveling to Australia.  They are shipwrecked in Southeast Asia.  Check out a map and see if you can trace a path that their ship may have taken.
  • Next, read chapters 1-4.  I want you to do your very best to answer the questions in your packet!
  • If you come upon a word that you don't know, add it to the "Tricky Words" page.  Look up the definition and bring these to class.  We will add them to our Word Wall!
  • Add any cool plants, animals, & places to your Field Guide! (Just a few ideas for you for chapters 1-4 : monkeys, calabash trees, penguins, jackals.)

Reader's Journal (choose ONE)
  • The Robinsons try many new and different foods to survive on the island.  Using information from the first four chapters, create an imaginary menu of what their meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) could have been like.
  • The Robinsons built a treehouse!  Write a paragraph that explains he steps in building the treehouse or details that the Robinsons included in their treehouse.  Use transition words to help your paragraph to flow!

Geography
  • We talked about The Ring of Fire in class.  Check out this really great video at National Geographic explaining The Ring of Fire and Earth's volcanoes!
  • We are going to begin our unit on Australia!  I want you to make a list of things that you already know about Australia AND a list of things that you want to learn about Australia.  Put these in your folder and we will discuss them when we return!

Science
  • We are learning about invertebrates.  Check out the chart in your science notebook.  Do you remember talking about the 6 groups of invertebrates that we mentioned in class?  Look at the chart and remind yourself of our lesson.
  • Next, click here and read.
    • Answer the following questions in your science notebook:
      • Arthropods have hard outer shells made of chitin.  What are these outer shells called?  Define the word in your notebook (in complete sentences).
      • What are the 4 groups of arthropods?
    • Next, click here and read.  Answer the following in your science notebook (in complete sentences):
      • What is so special about the legs of insects?
      • What is the difference between complete and gradual metamorphosis?
  • Read about the different parts of an insect's body under the flaps in your science notebook.
