        Handwriting
        • I assessed each student, and I am emailing you individual handwriting lessons!  We will be spending the rest of the school year tackling any issues with correct formation.  Parents, remember to check to see if they are starting their letters at the top, and lowercase letters a, c, d, g, and q all begin the same way... like the letter c.  It seems picky, but speed will matter later in life, and habits are formed now!

          History-
          • Read your handout on The New Frontier.
          • Read through the information on your covered wagon.  Which style of covered wagon would YOU choose if you had to make the journey west?  On the last page on your covered wagon, write about which you would choose and explain why.  Be sure to use your best handwriting and write in complete sentences!

          Journal-
          • This week, take your pick from the following writing topics:
            • Imagine that you were in the Carolinas right after the American Revolution.  You've just been asked to journey west into the unknown wilderness!  Write about your thoughts, your fears, your excitement, etc.  What would you take with you?  What do you think you might see out there?
            • It's almost the end of the school year!  Think about your first week of class.  Now, write a letter to yourself!  You might mention things you will do this year, animals that you will meet, or friends you will have.  You've done so much this year!

          Grammar
            • Study your grammar cards!
            • We talked about INTERJECTIONS in class.  Interjections are words that express sudden or strong feeling, such as "Wow!" or "Ouch!"

Poetry - You should be able to recite Mr. Nobody in class this week!

                Science
                • Show off your Space Book! We have worked on this unit for a few weeks now, and you have learned so much! Talk about it and review!
                • (Your science assignment will be listed in this week's journal assignment!)

                    Handwriting
                    • I kept your handwriting books in class.  I will be going through and pinpointing things that need improvement, student by student.  We'll be working on personalized lessons from now through the end of the year.  This week's handwriting assignment is combined with your journal assignment.

                      History-
                      • These videos are kind of silly, but they'll be a good review!
Print and complete this sheet for Monday!  (Parents, the writing prompt on p.3 is OPTIONAL.)

                      Journal-
                      • We talked about NARRATIVE writing and INFORMATIVE writing in class.  We have been using the "Hamburger" method to write informative paragraphs.  This week, I'd like you to go through your space book to remind you of all the things you learned about our solar system.  Use this to help you write an informative paragraph (or more than one if you'd like) to show what you've learned!
                        • Come up with a topic sentence about the solar system.
                        • Write supporting details to support your topic sentence.
                        • Finish it up with a conclusion sentence.
                        • If you have more topics that you would like to talk about, you can add another paragraph about a different main idea.
                        • This counts are handwriting practice for this week!  Make it great!

                      To be Completed by 4/16

                      Grammar
                      • Study your grammar cards!

                      Poetry -
                      • We will finish up the Mr. Nobody poem over the next couple weeks.  Do your best to memorize the rest of it by 4/23.

                      Science
                      • Use your Constellation pages to help you complete the science sheet in your red folder.

                      • Cut out the star and fold the flaps down.  Under each flap, draw the correct constellation.  Do not glue them down to another sheet of paper... we will do that in class and add them to your Space Books!

                      Handwriting
                      • Complete pages 91-93 in your handwriting book.
                      • Do not do page 94.  We will do that in class together!

                      History-
                      • Read through the end of your Magic Treehouse Book.  We will discuss it in class!
                      • Read your sheet on Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence.

                      Journal-
                      • First, use your hamburger sheet to organize your thoughts.  In class, each of you came up with a topic sentence about spring break.  Now, come up with your supporting sentences and conclusion.
                      • Before class, take the hamburger paragraph and rewrite the paragraph in your journal.
                      • (Parents, if your child is able to write the structured paragraph without the organizer, just have them write in their journal.)
