Farm Fusion Journal Choose One:

  • We have had some ups and some downs this year on the farm.  What do you think we learn from talking about the good times and the bad times in Farm News?  Do you think it's good to talk about it all, even the bad?  Why?  Do you think you view animals, nature, or just day to day life any differently than you did before spending time on a farm?

Language Arts

  • We went over the grammar sheet from last week in class.  The students made corrections as we discussed each sentence.
  • The students have two new grammar cards on their ring (or in their folder if they didn't have their ring).  Study them and be ready for an in class activity!
  • Print and complete this sheet to practice replacing nouns with pronouns.  Or, you can just write your answers on a sheet of paper!

Who Was Earnest Shackleton?

  • Read chapters 10-12
  • No vocab this week!

    Reader's Journal

    • Imagine that YOU were on your way to the Arctic with Shackleton and his crew.  What would you pack?  Write a paragraph describing what you'd need and why!

      Science

      • In class, we had a super cool experiment involving a pine cone and water!  Write your thoughts about the results in your science notebook.  (In the little pine tree bubble that we added in class).
      • We talked about conifers and how cones carry seeds.  There are many other ways that seeds can travel.  Research these and be ready to tell the class what you found!

Due to house construction ramping up AND my son's graduation, I won't be proctoring standardized testing this year.  I'll post options for standardized testing locations as I find them.

      • Eagles Nest (Newnan) - Testing April 22 & 23 / Register by March 1st. https://enchea.com/academics/standardized-testing
      • Konos (Fayetteville) - May 14-16 (Registration info not posted yet)

      Farm Fusion Journal Choose One:
      • Let the baby goats be the main characters this week!  Be sure to use capital letters and proper punctuation.  Let's see some great adverbs and adjectives!
      • In class, we read the story of P. Zonka.  Try to tell the story from P. Zonka's point of view.  What was she thinking when she was looking around at all of those beautiful flowers?  Why didn't she like the things that normal chickens liked?  Let's hear what P. Zonka has to say about it all!

      Language Arts

      • Great job with your paragraphs!  Remember, I will be expecting you to INDENT your paragraphs.  Also, try to remember not to write each sentence on its own line.  Let them all flow together!
      • Print and complete this sheet.  We talked about it in class and went through a few together.  Use your grammar cards and take your time!
        • Remember--
          • ADJECTIVES describe nouns and tell us what kind, which one, how many, and whose
          • ADVERBS describe verbs (and other things that we'll talk about later!) and they tell us how, when, where, and to what extent
      • PARENTS - Some where having a hard time pointing out adjectives and adverbs in sentences.  You may want to practice this when they come up in reading or in other subjects.
      • We talked about conjunctions in class, and some students had not seen the conjunction junction video.... so here it is!
