Due Feb 1 & 2

 Announcements

February Tuition is Due

Our next scheduled break will be Feb 15-18, correlating to Fayette County Public Schools.  (If you ever need to view the class calendar, it stays posted at www.freebirdfarm.com under the Education link.)

Registration forms for summer classes and signups for summer (and school year) individual and small group tutoring are available at http://freebirdfarm.com.

Valentine's Party will be Feb 8th and 9th.  Rosters for each class will be send via email.  If you would like to send in a treat or snack to share during free time, just send me a text or email and I will add it here to avoid duplicate items.   We will supply the bags/boxes for Valentine collection.

(We would love a few soy-free/corn-free and artificial dye-free options for Monday's class.  Also, please ANY NUTS, peanut or tree nuts, for Monday's class.  Tuesday's class could use some gluten-free & dairy-free options.  Thanks!)

 Monday List-

Tuesday List-

Farm Fusion Story Ideas:

  • We have new pigs (hogs) coming to the farm on Friday, so you'll meet them when you come next week.
  • The baby bunnies will be opening their eyes soon.  We talked about how baby bunnies are called "kits".  Their moms are called "does".
  •  Smalls the Pig escaped on Sunday!  I had to go get him all the way up the road.  SO many of my neighbors called, texted, and messaged me about him being on the loose!

Handwriting

  • The majority of kids are not doing any of the handwriting assignments at all at home during the week.  Hopefully, they are working on writing at home with parents, instead of participating in assignments for class.  I'll keep trying to help in class, but there is no way that I can help teach children how to correctly write when I am only with them once per week.  Since it's not possible for me to keep assigning page numbers, I will have students that are doing the work to continue to complete 2-3 pages per week, at home.  For those participating, I am checking each students' progress and working with them on problem areas. Many students told me that they never even know there are any assignments for my class.

 OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Help your children count coins/money.  We have been working a lot on adding money with coins!
  • Check out this BRAINPOP on Snowflakes!
  •  Kids in class were wondering how people were able to look at snowflakes under a microscope.  Here are some instructions for doing it yourself.... if it ever snows!

Assignments Due 1/25 & 1/26

 Announcements

Our next scheduled break will be Feb 15-18, correlating to Fayette County Public Schools.  (If you ever need to view the class calendar, it stays posted at www.freebirdfarm.com under the Education link.)

Handwriting

  • Since we only had 3 out of 14 students write this week's Farm Fusion story or complete the electricity assignments in Monday's class (Tuesday class had 11 out of 14), I will repost from next week for anyone interested in sharing this week.
  • In class, we learned about electricity as we tested the strength of the electric fence.  We discussed circuits, grounding, The kids made their own circuits to make a light bulb glow!  Here are a few OPTIONAL activities if you would like to play around with circuits.
  • Here are a few ideas for this week's story!  I LOVE hearing your stories, and so do your classmates!
    • If they are successful, our emu eggs will hatch around February 1st.  Write a story about this unique animal hatching out on our farm.  There's nothing like them here!
    • We read the story, "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" in class.  Write your own funny version of your favorite fairy tale!
    • We talked about GUARDIANS of the farm in class.  Create a super hero group, and come up with an action story!
    • As always, you can always write a story of your choice.  😃
    • Please work on handwriting as you write!

Handwriting

  • Complete the next 2-3 pages in your handwriting book.  Be sure you are working carefully to correct and address bad habits.  (If you did not work on it during the week, there is no need to rush and do this the morning of or the night before class. If it wasn't part of parent-led instruction, simply completing the sheets isn't going to be effective in helping your student with handwriting skills.)

Assignments for 1/18 & 1/19

FARM FUSION

  • Here are a few ideas for this week's story!  I LOVE hearing your stories, and so do your classmates!
    • If they are successful, our emu eggs will hatch around February 1st.  Write a story about this unique animal hatching out on our farm.  There's nothing like them here!
    • We read the story, "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" in class.  Write your own funny version of your favorite fairy tale!
    • As always, you can always write a story of your choice.  😃

HANDWRITING-

  •  For this week, complete the next 2-3 pages in your handwriting books. I will be checking them and helping address issues as I see them!
  • Also, encourage your child to write! At this age, even the youngest students in class should be writing at least a few sentences, even if they are copied. I know some children hate to write, but it's an important skill to be sure to encourage and work on daily.

SCIENCE

  • OPTIONAL- In class, we talked about different adaptations that animals have to stay warm in polar climates. Come up with a model of a creative plan for a shelter using items that you think would be "insulating". You can draw it or actually make a little model of your shelter!

 Optional Videos

MATH ENRICHMENT

  • We worked on counting money in class, and it looks like a lot of our students really need help in this area!  Spend some time working on the different values of coins and how to count them.  Since it seems to be a problem area for most, we will spend some more time on this in class.  (For those who already "get" in, we will break up into groups for individualized instruction/activities!)
  • We will also be working on skip counting for the remainder of the year.  Let’s start with the 2’s. Find a song that you like best!
